I'm a 33 year old male. I live near Detroit, Michigan, and have for going on 10 years this September (prior to that, I lived in Oregon). Married 8 years this June. Father of twin sons, 5 years old in April, one of whom was born with complications and special needs. I've been on LJ for years, and I went through a friends purging a month or two back. Recently added a few from a different friend-adding group, and I saw this one highlighted on the main page, so I thought I'd try it once.
Movies: Monty Python's Meaning Of Life, the Star Wars saga (all six), Friday The 13th (the original series, not the remake), Touch Of Evil, Die Hard, The Adventures Of Ford Fairlane, Vertigo, Clerks, The Crow, Tombstone, Natural Born Killers.
Music: Local H, Pearl Jam, Tool, Radiohead, Oasis, The Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, The Toadies, Slayer, Monster Magnet, Iron Maiden, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix.
Books: Stephen King (especially The Dark Tower, Under The Dome, The Dark Half and Pet Sematary), Robert Anton Wilson (especially Illuminatus! and the Cosmic Trigger trilogy), Jim Morrison's Adventures In The Afterlife, Dune, Crystal Lake Memories, Helter Skelter, 1984.
Also a big gamer. Currently, I have a PS2 (recently, We Heart Katamari, WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2011 and 24: The Game), a PS3 (currently, God Of War Collection, Fallout 3 and Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow) and a Wii (currently, Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Scarface), but I date back to the Intellivision. Also a huge fan of professional wrestling; I co-host a podcast about it, taped on Wednesday nights with a friend in Tennessee.
I hold no beliefs as far as politics go (they're all liars), and I also hold no faith (I'm just not wired for leaps of faith or devout, blind belief; I need proof.)
I'm fairly open-minded, and I don't need friends to be an exact match ... however, there are some "don't bothers" that, if you fall into these categories ... well ... don't bother.
Please don't bother ...
... if you're a religious fundamentalist or a pushy religious type. Sorry, but I'm not here to be preached to or "saved". I don't think you're wrong, but I don't think you're right, either, and if you can't pay that respect in kind, walk on.
... if you're racist, sexist, or any other kind of "-ist" of discriminatory fashion. I have no place for you in my life, and you serve no purpose on Earth.
... if you're easily offended by anything. I pull no punches. I swear a lot. Religious-types might call me heretical. Political hacks might call me a traitor to the party (they assume I ever swore allegience to either side; I never have). the politically correct would call me insensitive. And I don't care. I don't speak to hurt, but I don't cushion anything, so, if you have a thin skin, the door's that way.
... if you think having a different point of view is a "negative outlook". I can't stand that.
... if your LJ is peppered with stories about how you got tanked or high last night. I don't want to hear about your alcohol-soaked, drug-fueled hedonistic lifestyle. In my eyes, you're wasting your life and the brain you have in your head, and it disgusts me.
... if you're poly. I find it to be an excuse to be an unfaithful slut, and it offends my sensibilities.
... if you have trouble discerning fiction from reality. This includes, but is not limited to: picking Team Edward/Jacob (you know the ending! What's with picking teams?!?), writing slash-fic, and cosplay. I enjoy my fandoms. I don't live through them, and I don't subordinate my individuality with them because of some aching void. People who do, I find sad.
... if you don't like kids. Cause I do. If you thinks kids are irritating, gross, disturbing, whatever, I think that of you, too.
... if you view the world in terms of black/white, either/or, up/down, etc. This wretchedly antiquated Aristotelian model of thinking is useless. I deal in probabilities, not absolutes, because nothing is absolute. If you can't wrap your head around concepts like probability scales and n-logic, I'm not the friend for you.
... if, in an debate, you base your argument on opinions and unprovables instead of facts and logic. I will not debate opinions. They are virtually unprovable, either in the positive or the negative. It's a zero-sum game. I love a good debate, but come armed for it. Don't just throw "I think" and expect it to float, because I will blow that ship out of the water.
... if you're a friend collector. I don't comment every day on people's journals, and I don't post in my every day, but I do make it a point to read and comment where appropriate. I'm not collecting friends for cool points.
... if your journal is a parade of life-is-so-hard, eternally depressed, drama-after-drama-after-drama entries. I went through the teenage years once already, and it wasn't exactly a high point. If you can't do anything but complain about your life, I don't want to read about it.
So ... there you go. My journal is friends-only, so post here, or send me an LJ message. Or both.
