The Truth of Mione Phoenix

Phoenix

Out of my ashes
will rise a new phoenix.

A soaring being
returning from death
proving once again
that life is eternal.

I live forever
because the spirit
never dies.

I will return
in another body
in another time,
but it is me.

The me who is me now
will always be.

As long as I live,
I learn.
And I live

- Carmen Columbo

Born Hermione Jean Granger on September 19, 1979, Mione never felt like she belonged. Not to her parents, not to her schoolmates, not to the world she was raised in. She was always, well, different. Sure, she was intelligent, light-years ahead of the other students in her grade, but that wasn't what made her different. She had these abilities, especially when there was fire involved.

Fire

Hermione had this innate control of fire. She could point to the wick of a candle, and it would flare to life. She could make it larger, or smaller, or stop it from spreading. Nearly anything. It scared the other children. Hell, it scared everyone!

This difference was finally explained when Hermione was 11. She received a letter from Deputy Headmistress Minerva McGonagall at Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. As it turned out, Hermione was a witch! Instead of shock, Hermione and her parents (both dentists) felt relief. They finally had an explanation for Hermione's abilities, and Hermione instantly dove into the wizarding world head first. She devoured every book she could get her hands on explaining the abilities of witches and wizards, especially taking the time to memorize Hogwarts, A History, the definitive tome on the school she would be attending.

While at Hogwarts, Hermione finally met other students just like herself. Well, close to like herself. She made two friends, two best friends near the beginning of her first year. Harry and Ron. The three of them, although often joined by other close friends, were practically inseparable! Well, she did most of their homework while they were off playing Quidditch, but otherwise they were together. Known as the Golden Trio, they worked together to bring down the Dark Lord Voldemort when they were still teenagers. Unfortunately, that's where their closeness ended.

After the Battle of Hogwarts, the trio attended a special summer program put together by the Ministry of Magic to give them, and other students who would have been in their year at school, to study for and take their Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Tests (N.E.W.T.s), thereby graduating from Hogwarts and being able to move on to become adult members of wizarding society. It was during this program that Ron proposed to Hermione. The two had been dating on and off for a while, and it was the next logical step in their relationship, so of course Hermione said yes. She would live to regret that.

Ron started drinking pretty heavily, most likely trying to forget all of the death and destruction they'd seen while fighting Voldemort, but Hermione wasn't around enough to see it. She was off studying, wanting to become a Potion's Mistress, and she was in class when it happened. She still isn't sure what happened exactly, just that she came home to their flat and found Ron crumpled on the floor, wand still in hand, crying over the dead and bloodied body of her half-kneazle Crookshanks.

She can still remember that day, ten years ago, as if it were just yesterday. He looked up with her, eyes full of tears, and just whispered two words, "I'm sorry." Without thinking, without speaking, Hermione realized what she should have known sooner, she didn't love him. She turned and left, apparating away from everyone and everything. She traveled the world for a few years, first through Europe, then eventually Australia and North America, reinventing herself and finding her place in the world.

That's where I come in, Mione Phoenix. Hermione is gone now, she's another person, another place, another lifetime. Now I've returned home to the UK, to London, to the place where I truly belong. I'm ready to make a name for myself. I've risen from the ashes of my old life, a more mature, more confident, better version of myself. Where I'm going to go from here, I have my plans, but I'm not going to tell you, not yet anyway. I guess you'll just have to wait and see where I end up.
