I currently live in Chicago. I recently moved (back) here after completing all of my coursework for my PhD in Philosophy. I'm now teaching myself French in preparation for my foreign language exam, after which I'll be spending the next several months preparing for my comprehensive exams. My specialty is in Renaissance Philosophy and Aesthetics. I've spent the past year and a half teaching, although I'm on a brief hiatus while I prepare for exams, after which I plan on finding an adjunct position. My long-term plan is to teach philosophy in an art school.
I travel a lot. I've been to Italy, Germany (twice), Denmark, Finland, Malta, England, Brazil and France as well as all over North America. I'll be going to Turks and Caicos next month and to Paris in October. I generally like to post about my travels.
I'm a fairly creative person. I've been writing fiction since I was nine. I let my creative writing slide while I was taking coursework, but recently picked it up again and am writing a novel. I also like to paint, and have done so for several years, but have fairly little in terms of formal art training. I'm planning on taking an adult education drawing class next month, however. I recently began dabbling in photography as well. I occasionally will post photographs behind a cut-tag. I don't generally post my fiction or my paintings, but I do talk about what I'm working on.
I'm very interested in personality typing systems, such as the Jung's theory of types, as well as the Enneagram.
I've studied tarot for a number of years and, to a lesser extent, astrology. I'm an Aries with Virgo Moon and Leo Ascendant. I'm currently writing a paper on the role of astrology in Pico's Kabbalistic philosophy.
I live with my husband, our three cats and two turtles.
I'd like to meet people with similar interests or just an interesting perspective. It's not necessary to comment on every post, but I'd prefer it not be the sort of "Hallmark" comments, for example, only commenting to write "hugs" or "get well soon" or "good luck." Otherwise, I don't have too many stipulations and will generally add most people back.
