★ Basic stuff: My name is Mirkka, I'm 24 years old (turning 25 this year), I'm from Finland but married to a Japanese man and have been living in Japan since February this year. We live in a nice house in the small city of Miyoshi, located somewhere between the bigger cities of Nagoya and Toyota. I'm pregnant and due in about 2,5 months. We've been through some very bad times lately with my husband, which has made my journal a not-so-happy place for a while there, but things are slowly getting better. This is us.
★ While my native language is Finnish, I'm fluent in English and nearly fluent in Japanese. I speak strictly Japanese with my husband whom I've known for almost three years now, but he does still need to explain some words to me. I'm hopefully going to take the JLPT N1 test this year. My dream job is a translator, preferably of Japanese, but seeing as I have no education in translation and have a baby on the way, it's still a very remote dream.
★ I love traveling. Before moving here I visited Japan for 4 times (3 before I met my husband, each time for a month), and in addition I've been to Germany, Cyprus, Romania, Estonia and Italy. We're going to South Korea on the 13th this month.
★ I love healthy food and exercise, and I went from BMI 28.5 to 19.8 at the lowest, and am now at a healthy 24.5 or so. The pregnancy has made me put on some weight but not too dramatically.
★ I also love unhealthy food and don't deny myself the small pleasures in life such as cheesecake or ice-cream, haha.
★ I love books and I just bought the Kindle Touch yesterday and can't wait for it to come. I read mostly fiction, especially anything in the fantasy and paranormal genres. I'm not a big fan of YA save for some of the Really Good ones such as Harry Potter and The Chronicles of Narnia. I would love to find more paranormal books that aren't YA or romance; I'm relatively new to the genre and sometimes find it exhausting to plod through all the YA and romance the genre is infested with to find books that aren't one or both of those. I have nothing against YA, but the book needs to be Really Very Good for me to not pass on it because most of the time I just find YA protagonists hard to relate to.
★ I'd love to have friends who like books and can recommend good ones, and they don't need to necessarily be fantasy or paranormal or anything like that. I won't pass on a good book just because it's a different genre than what I usually read!
★ I love games, especially World of Warcraft. Unfortunately I haven't been able to play much at all since coming to Japan, but lately I've been playing some WoW a bit again. I don't play when my husband is around though and because he's working only part-time right now, I've been playing maybe like once or twice a week max. Also, I still play on an European server, but the time difference usually makes it rather boring, because people are never online when I am!
★ I am pro-choice and agnostic leaning towards atheism. I'm mostly very open-minded and don't mind people's religions and such as long as they don't shove them on my face. I'm NOT open-minded when it comes to homophobia, racism, sexism, many other -isms and willful ignorance.
★ I mostly write about my life and random things that have caught my interest. I like people who comment, and I try to comment as much as I can, although lately my time online has been very limited because life. I won't remove anyone who doesn't comment ~enough~, but I like to get to know my friends. :)
★ I would like you to be mature (nothing to do with the numbers) and open-minded, and good grammar is a big big bonus. If you're all this, it won't matter how much our opinions and life situations differ; I'm sure we'll get along great. :)
EDIT: I've just made a friending meme over on my own journal, for people who like books. I hope it's okay to mention it here in this community. :)
Feel free to comment over there to find new friends who like books!
