My name is Alice, and I'm a 25 year old living in Brooklyn. I've had my LJ for AN ENTIRE DECADE now, but it's been pretty barren for the last six or seven years. I'm clearly trying to turn that around with some new LJ friends.
I like to spend my free time going to shows, going to parties, seeing art exhibits, trying new restaurants and bars, painting, writing, reading, watching things, and talking ad nauseum about my feelings. I double majored in English and American Studies in college, and now I make my cash money working for a publishing house in Manhattan.
Because I work in publishing, I'm reading constantly. I'm especially fond of experimental fiction and cultural histories, but I really do read some of everything. Some of my favorite authors are Oscar Wilde, Scott F. Fitzgerald, Deb Olin Unferth, Haruki Murakami, Salvador Plascencia. I also have a vaguely embarrassing and undying love for the Harry Potter series.
My musical taste is relatively diverse. I got through high school listening to 80's goth (Bauhaus, Siouxsie Sioux, the Cure etc.) and glam rock (David Bowie, Brian Eno, Roxy Music, etc.), but I also adore top 40's (so call me, maybe?), as well as the sort of stuff that gets attention on Pitchfork, Hipster Runoff or Gorilla Vs. Bear (Purity Ring, Dirty Projectors, Two Door Cinema Club, etc). As is true of much of my generation, I also have a deep and unrelenting love of 90's pop.
I watch a lot of movies. I think the best way to describe my taste in movies these days is "critically acclaimed and slightly offbeat." The last three films I watched were Melancholia, Sleepwalk with Me, and Earl Morris' Tabloid.
The TV shows I'm watching/keeping up with at the moment are Arrested Development, Community, Mad Men, Game of Thrones, Parks & Rec, 30 Rock, and Girls. With TV, I'm into lighter fare.
So those are my tastes in a nutshell! (Though I don't know how important they'll be regarding what's in my journal.) I'll probably use this journal mostly to write about my feelings and process the strange, slow journey known as 'growing up.'
I love hearing about different lives and perspectives, so I'm interested in being friends with pretty much anybody. Let's add each other!
