I'm a twenty year old from Sydney, Australia. Despite having been on lj for a few years now, my journal is virtually empty at the moment. I think of things I'd like to post about and then I realise I have pretty much no active friends to read those posts anyway, so why bother :p
I joined lj mostly because of fandom stuff and then realised that it's actually a great community and i'd like to get to know the people here better.
So here I am, trying to make friends!
About me: I'm a student, studying ancient history, especially egyptology and biblical studies. I'm also very interested in ancient languages. Currently I can read and write in seven languages - English, Spanish, German, French, Coptic, Syriac and Hieroglyph - and I hope to read ten someday soon. Despite that, my journal is only in english (unless I go crazy and decide to show off my Hiero, it's a seriously cool language!)
I'm a christian and a lesbian. In all honesty, if you have a major problem with either of those, we're probably not going to get on. On the other hand, if you're vaguely interested in one or the other, or are curious as to how the two interact seeing as a fair few people seem to believe they're mutually exclusive, we'll be just fine. I have pretty liberal views on faith, largely informed by my historical perspective and am always happy to have a rational, informed discussion about anything. We don't nescessarily have to agree but I am a firm believer in mutual respect.
I also have a pretty severe medical condition called Pernicious Anaemia which means I spend a lot of time in bed/hospital. I have pretty much no social life as a result in real life. Hence why I'd like to make some online friends. I can't hang out with people in RL because I'm sick too often but my computer is always available. I also read a heck of a lot of books for the same reason.
As far as hobbies go, I'm a singer (mostly choral), love to watch rugby union and knit. Actually, between knitting, having three cats and my illness, I'm pretty much an eighty year old in a twenty year old's body.
I have also had some pretty nasty battles with depression and self harm in the past. Some days are still bad. Mostly revolving around reconciling sexuality and faith. If you're in or have been in a similar situation, I'd love to meet you!
My Journal: like I said, it's pretty much empty at the moment. In the future, I'll post about family, health, faith, rugby, uni and fandom stuff. As far as fandoms go, my major one is a series by a reasonably obscure Australian author by the name of Matthew Reilly - they're military thrillers and I'm not going to vouch for their quality. I love them in spite of how bad they are. I do write fanfic (lame I know) so I will post links to my stories but you can ignore them. I'll probably also whine about how pathetically small that fandom is and my failed attempts to liven it up. Other than that, I love everything Tolkien and Harry Potter is my childhood (and a large portion of my adulthood...) The Avengers has currently taken over my life and I will confess to an obsession with everything sci-fi and superhero. Star Wars. Enough said. As far as music goes, I have ridiculously ecclectic tastes. I like everything. Like seriously. From musical theatre to the bad pop they play on the radio, to country australian music (I blame my mother, she indoctrinated me. It's not my fault) to classical choral works. Don't watch a lot of tv though I do make exceptions for historical documentaries and QI.
Thats about all. I have also been told that I'm a good listener. So I'll be looking forward to hearing from you.
