I'm 58 so I'm older than the average LJer. I graduated from San Francisco State University in 1978 with a BA in art. I retired from local government work three years ago and don't miss it whatsoever. I've been married for 4 1/2 years; we have separate homes (long complicated story having to do with a real estate issue). We live in the reddest and hottest county in California. Lemme tell ya, that isn't easy when you're a blue person. We hope to move to a cooler, more liberal-friendly area within a couple of years (long complicated story having to do with a real estate issue).
I have an online shop: https://www.zibbet.com/Violetsandwine
I'm quite liberal. Other opinions are fine as long as they can be discussed rationally and factually. Willful ignorance, bumper-sticker theology, and sloganeering politics annoy the crap out of me; when the froth starts appearing at the corners of lips, I exit the conversation. My patience for nonsense is nonexistent. I am a huge LGBTQ supporter.
My religious views are a work in progress. If you're a fundie of any sort, we probably will not get along.
I have no idea what fanfic/fandoms are and have never read Harry Potter. Video games, anime, mange, fantasy & similar subjects aren't my cup of tea. I tried to understand Meyer-Briggs once and lost interest.
I primarily read nonfiction and usually have three or four books going at once (cuurently, "I Never Met a Story I Didn't Like" by Todd Snider, "Death: The Trip of a Lifetime" by Greg Palmer, "One Summer: America 1927" by Bill Bryson, and "In the City of Bikes: The Story of the Amsterdam Cyclist" by Pete Jordan). I watch almost no television at all but when I do, it's usually baseball (SF Giants fan), cooking shows, and Downton Abbey. I like older movies, quirky films, documentaries, the occasional chick flick... such as "Midnight in Paris," "Jazz on a Summer's Day," "Hannah and Her Sisters," "An American in Paris," "Babette's Feast," and "Chariots of Fire." Overproduced and overhyped megahits just don't reach me.
Back in the 1970s I went to a lot of rock concerts. Now I'm more interested in jazz, blues, classical, folk, alt-country, and mostly music/musicians from the 1940s through 1980s. I like a wide variety of artists - for instance, Dave Alvin, AC/DC, Madeline Peyroux, Diana Krall, John Prine, La Boheme, Keynsham, Dexter Gordon, James McMurtry, and Johnny Mathis. Can't stand rap, though.
I have two cats and a step-cat, and they're all spoiled rotten.
I love cooking and having dinner parties. There aren't many foods I dislike. If you're vegan or celiac and come to my house for dinner, I'll make sure you have plenty to eat. And I have a food blog: https://eggsinhell.wordpress.com/
We love to travel. My husband is in love with Amsterdam. London is my city. We're eager to explore other places; we try to go somewhere out of the US about every 1 1/2 years for at least a couple of weeks.
Generally I post about what's going on in my life, though there is the occasional rant, political statement, or philosophical/rhetorical question post, newspaper oddity, or whatever else interests me. Seldom do I lock down a post so pretty much everything is out there for public consumption, warts and all. I swear a lot.
If all you post are memes/quizzes or U TyPe lYk tHIs, I don't think that will be a good fit.
