So I've been on LJ since... uhh... 2008? And I'm JUST NOW really looking around and discovering the immense community that we have here. For the first four years or so I just posted for the benefit of myself and a few close friends and didn't go any further than that but HHEEEYYY, there's tons of people out there. I guess. So SUP PEEPS.

My name's Aly. I'm pretty weird, definitely a bit awesome. I like to make things and listen to music and read and watch stupidly addicting television shows on my Nook while playing with wire. I work in an office (for now) and play everywhere else. I love to cook and eat but I also like to eat relatively healthily. But I also have an affinity for frosting.

Anyway, stop by if you want.

My name is Erika, I'm nearly 22 and from Pittsburgh. Just looking to meet and get to know some new people! :)

I'm something of a sporadic poster, and I don't comment on everything everyone posts because sometimes I just have nothing to say, but I do read everyone's posts and I typically find something to say in my own LJ at least once a week or so. I like taking pictures, and though I don't have any professional equipment and I'm not a master at it, I do take fairly good photos when the planets align correctly, and I just do it for fun at any rate. A lot of my posts might have pictures or video, so if you like photography and sharing pictures, we'll get along fine :)

I love reading, and have a growing collection of vintage books. I don't know what started it, but I love finding old books- I have a bunch from the 19th Century, and looking for more. Old books just seem to have more soul to them, if that makes the slightest bit of sense. xD My favorite genres are horror, sci-fi and philosophy, and favorite authors include Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett, Stephen King, Khalil Gibran, H.P. Lovecraft, and many more.

Musically I go across the board, the only thing I don't really like is rap. I love blues music and classic rock, and have a soft spot for classical piano. I also love techno! xD Favorite bands/artists: The Doors, The Beatles, Queen, They Might Be Giants, Erik Satie, The White Stripes, System of a Down, Cruxshadows, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, VNV Nation, Fleet Foxes and Oingo Boingo.

I'm fascinated by religion, culture, history and philosophy. I love learning new things about any of them, and actually planned on majoring in religious studies before I found out there's pretty much nothing you can do with that degree. I am a spiritual person who's still in the midst of their journey, figuring out who they are and where they really belong. My religious beliefs are somewhat eclectic, combining traditional practices of my Nation(Ojibwe) with Catholicism and traditional rootwork. I have both glowingly positive and scathingly negative things to say about certain religions and beliefs, so if you're particularly faithful to a certain belief system, or particularly hate one, I might drive you crazy on occasion.

To prevent me from rambling on and turning this into a novel, add me if: you like all kinds of music and movies, like photography and picture-posts, like art, reading, philosophy, religion and the like, are open-minded, don't take yourself too seriously, like Sherlock, Doctor Who or Criminal Minds, and just having fun. :) I hope to get to know some of you!
it's my party

I hate giving away info about myself but

I'm in the weird situation of hating giving away information about myself, and at the same time wanting to become a more active member of various communities. Maybe this will help; let's get it out there.

Sometimes I feel like I am too many people, like my interests and choices are too wide. Perhaps that in itself means I don't know enough people.

I won't tell you my name, except maybe if we become very good friends. My parents instilled that much fear of the internet in me. I'm 17 and I live in the Midlands, in England. I've been on LJ for some years, through various accounts.

I don't actually post to my journal, although I'd quite like to have something to post about. I might start if there's any sort of audience.

I adore books, and have over 300 in my tiny bedroom. My absolute favourite author is Daniel Handler/Lemony Snicket (and if you have not read any of his books then I recommend them to you wholeheartedly). I also read a lot of translated books, because other cultures and languages fascinate me. I love linguistics, and would love to meet more people interested in it.

When people ask me my type of music, I'm pressed for an answer (it's that not giving things away thing). I listen to a lot of indie, like Voxtrot and Beirut, and I have a soft spot for female singers like Florence Welch, Marina Diamandis or Beth Ditto.

What I consume a lot less of is film, sadly, because I rather vehemently hate Hollywood movies; I've read too many social justice blogs, and it has ruined Hollywood for me. Besides, it's too contrived. I do like indie and foreign film, but my attention span means I often give up quickly. My favourite film I've seen so far has to be Amélie. (It might be a common answer, but only because it's so good.)

I identify as queer/bisexual, and I used to identify as an atheist. No more; I'm exploring different spiritual pathways, so to speak, but I am seriously considering converting to Judaism.

tl;dr: books/indie/queer/languages/secretive

Now, I say I don't like giving away information about myself, but now I seem to have written down everything possible about myself.

I'm open to meeting any kind of people, so let's see how it goes!
